Looking to defend his title, Waiakea senior Chad Suzuki enters the Big Island Interscholastic Federation golf tournament with the hot hand. The first round of the championships will tee off at 10 a.m. Sunday at Hualalai Resort.

Suzuki claimed medalist honors at four of the six league meets this season, including Tuesday at Kona Country Club when he shot a 2-over 74. Other winners during the season were Kealakehe’s Steven Kim and Hawaii Prep’s Andrew Paisley, a two-time BIIF runner-up. Kris Ishibashi posted three top-five finishes for the Warriors, who swept the boys and girls team titles.

Waiakea junior Ciera Min, in search of her first league title, posted the top girls score at three of the four meets she entered. The Warriors’ Andi Igawa carded a 77 to top a four-player field at Kona C.C. Waiakea’s Nani Yanagi, the 2010 league champion, took medalist honors twice this season.
